About Us — Perlugap
Handcrafted Natural Solid Wood Tables
Homes feel warmer when things are made with care. At Perlugap, we focus on one craft: solid-wood tables made by hand. Our designs are calm, simple, and comfortable. We let the wood’s grain show and build pieces that settle naturally into your space.
Nature & Sustainability
Materials matter. Perlugap uses responsibly sourced, kiln-dried hardwoods from trusted partners who value traceability and good forestry. Our finishes are low-VOC and safe for the home. The aim is straightforward: make tables that look good, feel good, and respect the environment.
Functional Beauty for Everyday Living
Good design should work quietly. Every Perlugap table invites gathering—meals, conversations, work sessions. Surfaces are easy to clean, joinery is built for daily use, and finishes protect while highlighting character. We want a table that stays pleasing to the eye—and to the touch—year after year.
Who We Are
Founded in 2024, Perlugap is a small studio of designers and makers who love natural materials. From our workshop and showroom at 2409 Shotgun S, Abilene, TX 79603, we build and ship directly to customers—keeping pricing fair, quality consistent, and communication personal.
What We Make
Perlugap centers its work on solid-wood tables—dining, coffee, console, side tables, and desks—offered as ready-to-ship pieces or made-to-order. Each design comes in select sizes and finishes. We also handle custom dimensions, edge profiles, stain matching, simple carvings or inlays, cable ports for desks, and matching benches.
Our studio keeps production focused: roughly 20–40 tables per month based on complexity. Ready-to-ship items usually leave in 1–2 business days; custom builds complete in 3–5 weeks.
We build with kiln-dried hardwoods (target 6–8% moisture) from reputable U.S. suppliers. Bases are either matching solid wood or powder-coated steel from small U.S. fabricators for strength and clean lines. Finishes are low-VOC oils or durable lacquer for clarity, protection, and easy care.
Construction & Performance
Panels are laid out for stability and reinforced where needed. Typical tops are ~30–38 mm thick depending on size and species. We target flatness within about 1.5 mm per 600 mm and keep machine fits tight. Bases include threaded levelers for uneven floors, and hardware kits are test-fitted for smooth assembly. For everyday residential use, dining tables are designed to carry a distributed load around 100–150 kg (220–330 lb) without racking.
Our Process — From Raw Wood to Refined Table
- Selection: Boards are chosen for moisture consistency, straight or expressive grain, and sound structure—with traceable supply.
- Shaping: Precision milling and CNC cutting ensure repeatable joinery so legs align and aprons sit square, saving time in assembly.
- Handwork: Edges are eased, profiles refined, and transitions tuned so touch points feel welcoming. Knots are stabilized; underside shaping keeps the table visually light.
- Finishing: We sand through the grits, raise and set the grain, then apply either natural oil for a matte, tactile feel or clear lacquer for extra scratch and spill resistance.
- Quality Check: We inspect alignment, hardware fit, flatness, finish clarity, and overall balance. Each table is signed off and logged for future service.
Custom Projects follow a simple path: a short chat to understand the room and use, quick sketches to align on details, and a few email iterations until it feels right. We typically book 4–8 custom slots per month to keep timelines realistic.
Packing & Delivery protect the work end-to-end. Tops and bases are secured with foam and corner guards; hardware and instructions ship in a clearly labeled kit. Most domestic shipments go via UPS, FedEx, or DHL with real-time tracking.
Care & Longevity
Daily care is simple: dust with a soft cloth, wipe spills promptly, and use coasters or trivets for very hot items. Avoid long exposure to direct sun or excess moisture. Refresh oil annually (for oiled pieces) or use a gentle, non-silicone polish (for lacquer). With basic care, your Perlugap table builds a graceful patina and stays strong for years.
